A few weeks ago, I stepped out of the shower and felt a familiar twinge in my lower back.

I wasn’t too worried; it was just part of my routine, a little bit of “normal” pain.

But wait, what? Normal pain? What does that even mean?

It’s something people say to me a lot when they’re describing their pain.  “My back hurts more than just normal pain.”

And I get it. When you’re in pain for a long time, it’s just always there—it becomes the norm for you.

Have you ever noticed that there’s one thing that usually triggers your “normal” pain or discomfort?

For me, it’s been happening recently after I shower. My lower back starts to ache, but as soon as I sit down, it disappears.

What about you? What’s your thing? 👀

When you feel nagging pain regularly, it becomes a constant companion, almost like it’s here to stay forever.

I found myself waiting for my lower back pain to show up each day.  And it didn’t disappoint …

It’s like being stuck under a never-ending rain cloud, right? But, just like the weather, pain isn't static — it changes. Sometimes, it’s an intense thunderstorm, making it hard to focus on anything else. Other times, it’s a light drizzle — still there but not overwhelming.

And sometimes, it’s nowhere to be found.

But do you notice those pain-free times?

We tend to focus only on the pain when it’s there, but what about when it’s not?

Think about it: you don’t know you have a nose unless you have a cold, right?

If you pay attention to how your pain shifts, you’ll see it’s probably not permanent.

Even the smallest change means your pain can and does shift.   It's not fixed or rigid 24/7 — it's fluid.

And recognizing this fluidity can help you break the belief that your pain is constant or will never go away.

Now, imagine this…  What if a simple shift in your routine could address the root cause of your “normal” pain

As for me—my back pain has resolved.

How? Fear not; I didn’t give up showering.

I dug into my toolbox of restorative movements for lower back pain, added them to my daily routine, and poof! My pain is gone!
