Ever felt like you're playing whack-a-mole with your pain? 🔨 You zap it with your Theragun, feel great for a bit, and then—owww!—your pain's back.

It’s frustrating, right? But here’s the dirty little secret your Theragun doesn’t want you to know: It’s not really solving the problem. Sure, it makes the pain go away for a little while, but it’s really only distracting your nervous system—masking your pain, not fixing it.

A client came in recently, Theragun in hand, saying, "I use this thing every morning on my hip. It feels great, and I can walk without pain... for about 20 minutes."

Sound familiar?

Let's Run a Quick Test:

Here’s what I’d like you to do:

  • Note your pain level. (1-10 scale)
  • Use your Theragun for a few minutes.
  • Immediately recheck your pain level. Did your pain drop, even just a little?
  • Go about your normal activities for about an hour.
  • Recheck your pain level.

What Happened?

If you’re like most people, your pain probably decreased right after using the Theragun because it temporarily distracts your nervous system. But after an hour or so, your pain probably returned because the Theragun isn’t getting to the root cause of your pain—it’s just confusing your nervous system into feeling better for a bit.

It’s kind of like trying to swat a bee with a newspaper—you might stun it, but that bee’s coming right back to sting. And guess what? You’re still no better at avoiding bees!🐝

Here’s the key:  Simply getting rid of pain won’t improve how you move. But improving how you move can get you out of pain.

The secret?
Functional Movement Patterns—your everyday actions, like bending, reaching, or walking. If those movements are off, it can cause pain. Fix how you move, and you fix the problem at its source. —No fancy gadgets needed.

Remember my client? We worked on gentle, targeted, functional movements for their hip. Not only did their pain go away, but they also regained full use of their hip. They're back to their daily walks, pain-free!

So, next time you reach for that Theragun, remember: while it might provide temporary relief, the real solution lies in improving how you move.

Your body will thank you for it in the long run!
